David Shrubsole


David studied at Trinity College of Music and has worked widely as a composer, orchestrator, arranger and musical director for theatres in Britain and abroad. He has worked as a composer on productions including The Crucible (West Yorkshire Playhouse); Table and The Enchantment (both National Theatre); The Diary of Anne Frank (Theatre Royal, York); As You Like It and Merlin and the Woods of Time (Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre, Chester); Macbeth (Singapore Repertory Theatre); Alice (Crucible Theatre, Sheffield); The Dark Side of Buffoon (Belgrade Theatre, Coventry and Lyric Hammersmith); and Traveling Light, for which David was nominated for a Drama Desk Award (59E59 Theaters, New York). As an orchestrator/arranger, his credits have included Porgy & Bess and Hello, Dolly! (both Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre); Sweeney Todd and Annie (both West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds); She Stoops To Conquer (National Theatre); I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change (Singapore Drama Centre); Peter Pan (Birmingham Repertory Theatre); and The Importance of Being Earnest (Vaudeville Theatre). David has also worked as musical director on the film adaptation of London Road, and on theatre productions including London Road, The Magistrate, Major Barbara and The Alchemist (all National Theatre); Matthew Bourne’s Dorian Gray (Edinburgh International Festival and world tour); Just So (Chichester Festival Theatre); Ragtime (Piccadilly Theatre); My Fair Lady (National Theatre and Theatre Royal, Drury Lane). David is currently conducting The Threepenny Opera at the National Theatre.
