Casting

Casting

English Touring Theatre are committed to making the way we work with our collaborators as transparent and welcoming as possible.

When it comes to casting, we aim to:

  • Always let you know when we’re casting. We’ll publish breakdowns on this page for parts we’re casting and anyone can submit themselves for consideration. We work with freelance casting directors for each show who will be casting alongside these open submissions -  sadly we can’t guarantee you an audition or a reply but all submissions will be read.
  • Always let you have the information you need ahead of an audition in good time. The Casting Directors we work with will aim to schedule auditions at least 24 hours in advance, and will let you know who you’ll be meeting, how the meeting will work and what we’d like to see you prepare.
  • Always get back to you as soon as we can, regardless of the outcome of your audition.
  • Always welcome you to the building and ensure you know that this is a safe place to work. Our dignity at work policy will be available for anyone visiting the studios.

A little bit of information about our tours:

  • We usually do 7 performances per week
  • Our performance weeks run Tuesday – Saturday. We don’t perform on Sundays or Mondays.
  • The ETT Producer for the show visits every Tuesday for the opening night in each venue.
  • Usually we will rehearse at the ETT studios in Waterloo (subject to availability)
  • We will support company members to find accommodation in each city on tour using the ETT Dig's List

English Touring Theatre is proud to be a Strategic Partner of Parents in Performing Arts (PIPA) and Tonic Theatre.

KIND WORDS

Working with ETT was a gem from off and although I hadn't had a lot to compare it to being my first professional job, it was smooth sailing. ETT is well run machine with everyone knowing exactly what they're doing, I had a look on the wall in the coffee area and the amount of quality plays with quality actors speaks to that very point. I'd certainly work with ETT in the future, so thank you all.

Dexter Flanders - A Streetcar Named Desire

Touring with ETT was really good fun - we had a fantastic cast, creative and backstage teams to work with, which made the whole thing a pleasure.  We were very well looked after by the lovely staff at ETT in London, who also came to support us in different theatres along the way.  The venues were so welcoming that nowhere felt too far from home and the ETTers were always on hand if we had any questions etc.  Thanks ETT for a great tour & the birthday card!  I definitely feel like one of the ETT family.

Carlyss Peer – Rules for Living

I toured in Sandy Toksvig’s play “Silver Lining” with the ETT in 2017 and was highly impressed with the efficiency and general caring and helpfulness of the Company. Production values are excellent and there is genuine communication between the actors and Management.

Sheila Reid – Silver Lining

I absolutely loved going on tour with ETT, I think they're a great company to work for. From day one of rehearsals to our last night, ETT provided top levels of care and support every step of the way and ensured everybody in the Arcadia company was looked after, I really felt everybody's comments were listened to. 3 months of fun!

Wilf Scolding – Arcadia

Touring with ETT last year was like being a member of a large family. As we travelled round the country, I always felt really well looked after and appreciated.

Jane Booker– Rules for Living

They’re just a wonderful company. From Producers to Stage Management to the Directors they work with; every single person really cares about creating great work to be proud of and take around the country. A joyous summer.

Amber James – A Streetcar Named Desire

Working with the ETT and going on tour was one of the greatest experiences of my life. We played some amazing venues with some wonderful people. The ETT sets the standard not just for quality of work, but for quality of care - we really were so well looked after. It’s a high bar, and one that I wish every actor could have the chance to experience!
