OSCAR Omar Lyefook

I wanna be your man from now till I'm put in the ground...

Oscar lives in the fast lane. He pays for sex and pays for drugs but there’s something missing. Brooding over what might have been, he is forced to reflect on his reckless lifestyle and is taken by surprise by finding love where he could never have expected…

I care about the main characters to a fault. Omar’s vulnerability and honesty bring a truth to the Lovesong that makes his journey credible because I believe he’s lived it. The denouement is full of virtue, hope and positivity. This would be a good film.
Clarke Peters

Featuring his own music and lyrics, this unmissable one-man show is performed by soul legend Omar - founder of nu-classic British Soul, who again joins forces with award-winning writer/director, Ché Walker following their triumphant collaboration last year on the soul/funk musical Been So Long (Young Vic London, Latitude & Edinburgh Festivals)

Omar in Lovesong is funny, funky, touching, tender.  A 40 minute aria in word and song about the meaning of a mans life.

    The British Theatre Guide
  • A musical monologue performed – and with music by – Omar took us through a few days in the company of down-on-his-luck soul singer Oscar. Omar’s captivating performance, in his second collaboration with Che Walker, sees him try to heal a broken heart with booze, drugs and hookers. The original songs flow easily with the gritty, witty dialogue as the protagonist finds love and redemption in an unlikely source. Omar’s voice actually seems to have improved with age and the intimate setting is perfect.
